International Leadership Symposium in Nigeria

Just returned from working with over 60 leaders in Nigeria that was sponsored by Glowstik consulting, our partners in Africa and the HR Network Africa. I was awed by the amazing turnout and the vision of those who attended both the Chief Executive Symposium and the International Leadership Training. There were leaders from small to medium sized businesses, large corporations, NGOs and government. Together we explored ways to facilitate needed change and support the development of people along the way. For many, the greatest paradigm shift was the idea of looking for and working with strengths. The power of goal oriented, positive conversations about the future resonated with the group.

Many were surprised (and pleased) at the approach I took. Although more accustomed to lectures or PowerPoint presentations, they quickly engaged in the multiple simulations, dialogues, reflections and shared experiences. The 2 ½ days with each group passed much too quickly. Luckily, we will find ways to stay connected through this website and on my future visits to the African continent. We will explore Conflict Resolution, how to use an appreciative approach to leadership and how to work more effectively across cultures – ethnic, national, generational and organizational in the future.
